Floral Tapestry
Floral Tapestry is another accessory set of tam and a pair of mittens from Colour Moves collection. This design was inspired by one of the sketches I drew during my travels to Peru in 2014. It is based on a flower with four petals in a pattern with four complementary shades. Each repeat of the flower is worked in a different shade, half-shifted from the previous repeat, with a dotted motif in another bold shade in-between. I used three cool colours for the background and the flowers, while for the small dotted motif I chose the warm Buckthorn Milarrochy Tweed shade. When knitted up, the final result reminded me of a carpet, with the brim and cuff playing the framing role of the carpet border.

Again in designing this pattern, few inspiration sources play their role: travels and repetitive, graphic motives of applied arts, in particular textiles.

The mittens were one of my submissions for the Warm Hands competition, which was launched by Kate Davies at the start of 2019 and in which designers were invited to submit pattern ideas for gloves, mitts and mittens. The warm response and appreciation that Floral Tapestry received from my fellow knitters encouraged me a lot, and I decided to design a tam to be worn together with the mittens if desired.

I hope that you will enjoy this design!
